The League of Women Voters of Plainfield will host a Candidate Forum for the Spring 2017 primary election on Wednesday, May 31 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at Emerson Community School, located at 305 Emerson Avenue in Plainfield. This year, a total of ten (10) candidates will appear on the ballot in the municipal election. Ann Armstrong of the Somerset County LWVNJ will be moderating the forum. All candidates were sent the format and guidelines, and all have been asked to arrive by 6:15 pm so that we may start promptly at 6:30.
LWV members will collect question cards from 6:30 - 7:15 pm for the mayoral forum and from 7:30 - 8:20 pm for the council forum. We will stop taking question cards after these respective times so that the candidates may deliver their closing statements. Anyone whose question was not able to be answered will certainly have the opportunity to speak to the candidates after the forum or to reach out to them via their campaigns. Please do not distribute campaign material inside the forum venue (Emerson School).
The moderator reserves the right to group some questions by topic so as to avoid duplication and to get to as many topics as possible, i.e., if there are 3-4 questions each on roads or leaf pickup or public safety. Please review our Election Publication (Wednesday, May 24 post). A limited amount of print copies will be available at the forum.
Please be respectful of all candidates as well as the audience, which is made up of your neighbors. Shouting or booing or any other verbal disruption degrades the discourse that the LWV-Plainfield seeks to provide by offering this forum as a community service to Plainfield. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
